What the MCP3004 does
The MCP3004/MCP3008 are 10-bit successive approximation analog-to-digital converters with on-board sample and hold circuitry. These devices feature 4 or 8 programmable input channels, supporting single-ended or pseudo-differential configurations. They operate on a single supply of 2.7V to 5.5V, delivering a maximum throughput rate of 200ksps at 5V. The converters maintain ±1LSB maximum differential and integral nonlinearity across their temperature ranges. Typical standby current is 5nA, while active current reaches 300µA. The parts support SPI serial communication and are available in PDIP, SOIC, and TSSOP packages. They are designed for sensor interfaces, process control, data acquisition, and battery-operated systems. The MCP3004 offers industrial and automotive temperature grades, whereas the MCP3008 extends automotive qualification to extended temperature ranges.
