00 — Overview

What the PCA9517 does

The PCA9517 is a two-channel, bidirectional I2C-bus repeater that translates voltage levels between 0.9V and 5.5V. Available in SO8 and TSSOP8 packages, it supports A-side supplies from 0.9V to 5.5V and B-side supplies from 2.7V to 5.5V. This device handles clock frequencies up to 400kHz and isolates capacitance to allow 400pF on each side. It features active-high enable control, open-drain inputs and outputs, and lock-up free operation. The PCA9517 accommodates Standard and Fast mode I2C-bus devices, multiple masters, and arbitration across the repeater. It serves as a footprint and functional replacement for the PCA9515/15A, enabling system designers to isolate bus halves for both voltage and capacitance while maintaining full I2C-bus and SMBus compatibility.
