What the HT12A family does

The HT12A and HT12E are CMOS encoders from Holtek designed for remote control systems. These devices encode N address bits and 12-N data bits for transmission via radio or infrared. The HT12A operates on 2.4V to 5V with a 38kHz carrier for infrared, while the HT12E supports 2.4V to 12V with four selectable data words. Both variants feature low standby current of 0.1uA typical at 5V and require minimal external components. They are available in 18-pin DIP and 20-pin SOP packages. Engineers typically use these parts in burglar alarms, car alarms, smoke detectors, security systems, and cordless telephones. The series provides high noise immunity and pairs with Holtek's 212 series decoders for complete remote control solutions.
