00 — Overview

What the HT12 family does

The HT12D/HT12F are CMOS decoders in the 212 series designed for remote control systems. These devices decode serial addresses and data transmitted via infrared or radio frequency, comparing inputs three times to ensure accuracy before transferring valid codes to output pins. The HT12D handles 8 address bits and 4 data bits, while the HT12F decodes 12 address bits only. Operating voltage spans 2.4V to 12V with low standby current and high noise immunity. They require only a 5% resistor for the built-in oscillator and feature a valid transmission indicator. Typically used in burglar alarms, car alarms, smoke detectors, security systems, and garage door controllers, these parts come in 18-pin DIP and 20-pin SOP packages with minimal external components needed.
