00 — Overview

What the DS1307 family does

The DS1307 is a 64 x 8 bit serial real-time clock with 56 bytes of battery-backed SRAM. It spans commercial, industrial, and military temperature grades in 8-pin DIP and SO packages. The device operates on a 4.5V to 5.5V supply, supports clock frequencies up to 100 kHz, and draws less than 500 nA in battery backup mode. It counts seconds through years with leap-year compensation and automatically switches to a backup supply during power failures. Engineers typically use this component for timekeeping in microcontroller applications requiring low power consumption and simple I2C interfaces.
